a recent post from so much to tell you (best blog ever?) encouraged me to find time to watch the 1960's czech new wave flim, Sedmikrásky (Daisies). it is a fun, silly, and beautiful film that makes you want to take your bff by the hand and run around and cause some chaos. also if you waste your life away on tumblr like me, you will notice some very familiar screen shots that commonly pop up on so many blogs. now you will know where they are all from...

leon the professional. excellent, excellent movie. i had not even heard of it, until someone pulled it out of their extensive dvd selection last week. i now have even more respect for natalie portman than i did before. also add to that my new found respect for black velvet chokers, chunky black boots, clean cut bobs, tiny shorts and stripy tees. man, i wish i was that cool when i was 12.

cognitive decline

i read this quite excellent movie review of SATC2 on stranger titled burkas and birkins. the author, lindy west, is somewhat of a comedic genius. i do love satc, but i really am only a fan of the television show and i love it for its light entertainment and not for its stance on feminism. the best example i can think of that outlines satc's true depth is when in season three, the girls are sitting around at a cafe talking about which political leaders are fuck-worthy and carrie's voice over announces 'here we were, just four girls talking politics'. that line actually does make my skin crawl.
however, i do think people get carried away thinking that satc and its producers are endeavouring to represent ALL women in its four characters. and if women out there actually admire and aspire to be samantha jones in real life, then i have much pity for them. but aside from those idiots, i would like to have the belief that women have enough intelligence to differentiate between a fictional television show and real life. so i have decided that my feminist standpoint is - we are (i like to think) not that stupid.

giddy

i met a nice english boy and i have become so disgustingly smitten, that tonight i told adele a story about we spontaneously jumped off the tube and walked around little venice, and she pretended to vomit. i dont blame her really. i feel like a traitor to my bitter and single self.
